Est. July 2001

July, 2001, The West Salem Garden Club came to life, emerging much as the early buds of spring. It has grown as the result of a small group of neighbors who love people, love gardening, and love to share their ideas and knowledge of gardening.

Among the activities the garden club is involved in are:

  • The West Salem Garden Club Cottage Garden Tour
    • The first five years we held our Cottage Garden Tour every year, then after the fifth year, we cut back to every other year.
    • Always held on the first Saturday in August.
    • West Salem opens 10 to 12 gardens for the tour.
    • Visitors from all over the state have come to enjoy our gardens.
    • Dollars raised through the sale of tickets go back into the neighborhood for such things as purchase of our Historic markers.
  • Garden of the Week
    • Each year beginning in May the Garden of the Week Program begins and continues through the end of August.
    • The Garden of the Week program awards outstanding gardeners with a sign placed in their garden for one week at a time.
    • That gardener then moves the sign to a new yard.
  • Flower Planting Projects
    • In the early spring, the garden club plants bulbs in the park and other public areas in the neighborhood - provided by the Keep Winston-Salem Beautiful Program.
    • Also, the garden club plants annuals and perennials each year in Granville Park, using flowers donated by the Keep Winston-Salem Beautiful Program.

The West Salem Garden Club meets once a month - always the third Thursday of each month at 6:30 PM. Our meeting location varies, depending on what activity we have going on that month. Check out the West Salem Neighborhood Calendar: WSNA CALENDAR
