Music
in the Park, founded in 2004 by former West Salem resident, Dan
Houston, is an annual collaboration of neighbors to bring
music into West Salem at our beloved Historic Granville
Park.
Granville
Park, nestled between West Street, Washington Avenue,
Green Street and Granville Drive, in the heart of West
Salem, is the perfect place to fill with neighbors, food,
and music. The first Music in the Park was held June 7,
2004 with the Association providing hamburgers and hotdogs
for everyone who attended. Barry Carlton, one of the many
resident musicians in West Salem, came with his guitar
and several musician friends to entertain us. And thus,
Music in the Park was born. Over 150 neighbors came out
for this first MIP event, and the music lasted until dark!
Through 2006, the tradition of Music in the Park prevailed. It tapered off after that for a while, but with new resident Rick Henterly taking the helm, it appears there is a revival!
This time we ask you to bring your own picnic supper and come to Granville Park the third Sunday of each month beginning in May and hopefully running through October. Many bands, groups, and musicians have graciously volunteered their time and talent to come out and entertain us.
Remember, these folks are performing for free, so please be generous with your tips!
